UNIT FACILITIES

At Rooms, our resident rooms are clustered into Units which are provided with facilities that are shared only among the residents within the Unit. Each Unit is seperate and fully self contained consisting of between 2 to 6 rooms sharing a common kitchen and toilets. The clustering of self contained units eliminates communal toilets and kitchens which was the trademark of the older style dormitories. Private toilet and shower facilities are installed within every unit. 

Kitchens facilities

Our kitchens are fully equipped.  There is no need to purchase any items for those who do not wish to spend money unnecessarily. The list is too long but it includes a large sized fridge/freezer, microwave, broiler oven, plates, bowls, cups, can openers, forks, spoons, dish racks, pots, pans, woks, knives, chopsticks etc, etc. Just supply your own groceries from the Vic Market and remember to get those recipes from your mother to beat those homesick blues...sigh !

Our kitchens are also equipped with full sized cookers using gas instead of "compact" (meaning very small) electric units found in the open market units built in the last few years. We use gas because it is cheaper and more efficient than electricity for water heating and more importantly, speedy cooking. Ever tried to char quay teow with electricity ?

Other Facilities

All residences have commercial coin operated washing machines and dryers in the laundry. In addition, we provide free use of irons, ironing boards as well as vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and general cleaning implements. Common rooms are equipped with either cable or satellite TV facilities as well as VCR and DVDs. BBQs are also available for student functions in the open deck recreational areas.

Weekly Cleaning

All residences (except Carlton Residence) are cleaned once a week as a standard maintenance item. The cleaning regime includes only common areas like the toilets, kitchen, flooring and rubbish removal. We believe that a clean and secure environment are top priorities and hence we devote a significant portion of our resources in this area to ensure a hygienic and healthy living environment for our residents.
